About Us

We’re a small boutique software development agency, founded in 2016, that works primarily with successful B2B SaaS startups / companies.

Our most popular offering is providing principal software engineers (10+ years hands-on experience, including key engineering positions at high-growth startups) to help our clients fill skill, experience or capacity gaps in their engineering teams. Principal software engineers can make or break the success of a startup, but they are also notoriously difficult for startups to recruit and retain, so having access to them on an as-needed basis (from a few hours a month up to 40 hours a week) has been extremely valuable for our clients.

In addition, we also have a very talented in-house team of software engineers ranging from junior to senior who are available to work on client projects.

Our team is fully remote and all originally from Canada and the US.

 

JUSTIN TILSON

Justin’s entrepreneurial itch started early, launching his first business, a bicycle sales and repair shop, at 14 years old. Handing that business over to his father 6 years later, Justin moved on the following year to meet his fellow co-founders and together they launched Elastic Path, which he helped to grow into one of the leading enterprise e-commerce software companies with dozens of delighted Fortune 1,000 customers.

After 8 years of being deeply immersed in all manner of Java-based client services work at Elastic Path, Justin opted to pause his tech career for 3 years and complete an MBA.

After that academic stint, Justin chose to dive back into software engineering at the Whole Foods Market HQ in Austin, TX. He worked with WFM for several years, participating on numerous teams, coding, creating developer tooling, building devops solutions, performing data surgery, and evangelizing for test automation.

In 2016, Justin founded Steel Toad Software, growing the company from just himself to 10+ team members, helping their clients build full-stack web and mobile apps.

With more than 20 years of software engineering experience, Justin is equally comfortable both leading teams and jumping into the trenches to architect, build, review, fix or create whatever solutions are needed by Steel Toad’s clients.

DAVE KOO

Dave got bit by the entrepreneurial bug after starting his first company, a web development agency, just before getting his Computer Science degree at 21.

Since then he has founded or co-founded 9 startups, 4 of which have raised money (seed, angel or VC), with funding of his startups totalling over $100M USD and 1 exit to Microsoft.

Dave co-founded and led software development at Elastic Path, a B2B e-commerce software company that he and his team grew from 0 to $6 million USD in annual revenue, 70 people, $5 billion USD in transactions processed and over 180 customers worldwide in the initial 5 years he was there.

He built the entire first version of the Elastic Path product himself and a few years later was leading multiple product teams of up to 45 people across 4 time zones with a 7-figure annual budget.

With more than 20 years of software engineering experience, from startups to some of the world’s largest brands, he brings a wealth of practical skills and expertise to the table.

Dave loves working with other startups to help them build outstanding products that their customers will rave about.
